SASA Champions

Over the weekend, Team Chicago sent multiple teams down to the SASA Invitational in Springfield IL. We would like to congratulate the 3 tournament winning teams.

The 2007 Elite Boys defeated their first 2 opponents on Saturday, 6-1 over South Suburban SA and 13-0 over SASA Spirits Blue.  On Sunday, they continued their winning streak with a 5-1 over the Aurora Flames, qualifying them for the tournament final.  The final was a physical match against South Suburban SA.  It came down to the last minute when they finally clinched the win with a finish off a corner kick, final score 4-3.  The 2007 Elite finished the weekend as undefeated tournament champions.

The Team Chicago Academy 2000 Elite Boys went 4 – 0 on the weekend defeating CISA Red in the first match 1-0. They defeated the Mundelein Strikers 2-1 Saturday evening and then won their Semi-Final match 1-0 against St Louis Scott Gallagher of Missouri.  That set up a final against the Aurora Flames Sunday afternoon. Matthew Dovalovsky scored the opener to go up 1-0. After a Flames goal Abraham Antar put Team Chicago back up 2-1 on a penalty. After another Aurora equalizer, with 4 minutes to play Matt Dovalovsky scored his 2nd goal of the game to win the tournament for the Team Chicago Academy 2000 Elite Boys

The Team Chicago Academy 1999 Elite Boys enjoyed the same type of success this weekend defeating SASA Spirits 3 -0 in their first game. They fell short against the Chicago Kickers 2 -1 Saturday afternoon meaning they would need a result on Sunday morning against FC South Central to progress to the final for a rematch against the Chicago Kickers. Team Chicago was able to defeat Fc South Central 7 – 0 setting up a rematch with Chicago Kickers. In a very entertaining match Team Chicago went up 1 -0 midway through the 2nd half through Bryan Torres, however gave up a late equalizer. The 99s thought they had won the Final on the last kick of regulation but the referees whistle had gone. In Overtime Brian Bertoni earned a penalty kick and was able to convert earning the tournament win for Team Chicago Academy 2000 Elite Boys.
